Arrive Bangkok, Thailand
Arrive in Bangkok, vibrant capital of Thailand, where you are met by your A&K representative and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
Bangkok | Rural Village Life
Rise early and journey to the southwest into Samut Songkhram province, stopping along the way at an amazing local market set up over fully operational railroad tracks — vendors remove their wares when a train approaches and put them back when it departs. Then, board a long-tail boat for a scenic ride through a maze of canals, disembarking to view rarely visited Wat Bang Kung temple, and its small chapel enclosed within the roots of a 400-year-old banyan tree. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and then visit Amphawa Floating Market for a firsthand look at life as the locals live it. Return to Bangkok for an evening at leisure.
Bangkok | Magnificent Reclining Buddha
Explore Bangkok today, starting with the Grand Palace, one of the most beautiful examples of a royal Siamese court, begun by King Rama I in 1782. Visit its Coronation Hall, Reception Palace and Funeral Palace. Proceed to Wat Pho to behold its 150-foot-long Reclining Buddha statue, adorned from head to toe in gold leaf. After lunch at a local restaurant, embark by boat on a revealing sojourn through the klongs, a network of canals that crisscross the city, and cruise on the Chao Phraya River to observe the traditional way of life still practiced along these vital waterways. Disembark along the way to visit the Royal Barge Museum as well as Wat Arun, a towering temple embedded with multi-colored porcelain.
Chiang Mai | “Rose of the North”
After breakfast, fly to Chiang Mai, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Chiang Mai once served as the capital of the 13th-century Lanna kingdom, with over 30 temples from this period remaining within the city walls. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.
Chiang Mai | Royal Market and Sacred Temples
Enjoy breakfast and a morning at your leisure before heading out for an afternoon visit to Waroros Market. Founded by royalty more than a century ago, this busy marketplace is a favorite of locals who prize it for ethnic foods, clothing and textiles. Next, climb aboard a trishaw for a ride along the famous Tapae Road, through the ancient city walls, to Wat Phra Singh, a temple that is home to the revered Phra Buddah Singh statue. Proceed to Doi Suthep, a temple situated 3,500 feet above sea level, to view its striking architecture and take in a beautiful vista, as the sun sets over Chiang Mai and its millions of glittering lights.
Chiang Mai | Elephant Sanctuary Experience
Journey into the picturesque countryside surrounding Chiang Mai to Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary for elephants rescued from abusive and harmful environments, on a shared excursion. Take the unforgettable opportunity to feed the gentle giants as you learn their personal history. Your visit helps support other regional projects as well as elephant conservation efforts throughout Thailand. Enjoy lunch on site before returning to your hotel for an evening at leisure.
