Enjoy the lovely countryside as you drift along the Canal de la Marne au Rhin through Alsace, where the history, food and culture of eastern France blend with those of neighboring Germany. Along the way experience stunning Strasbourg Cathedral, visit Sarrebourg's 13th-century chapel with stained glass by Marc Chagall and enjoy a beer tasting at a local brewery, founded in 1640. Back on board, watch your gourmet chef prepare dinner with ingredients purchased at the morning market. Itineraries can be arranged for chartering parties with special interests, such as food or walking.

Day 1

You are met in Strasbourg and transferred to the barge, moored in nearby Krafft, where a welcome reception awaits. You have time to take a walk or bicycle ride before having dinner on board.

Day 2

Cruise through the Grand Ried wetlands with its abundant bird life this morning. After lunch, visit Strasbourg's 12th-century Gothic cathedral and explore the pedestrian area of La Petite France.

Day 3

After breakfast, cruise to picturesque Waltenheim-sur-Zorn. Later, drive through the rolling Vosges hills along the Route des Grands Vins to a private tasting of the region's famous Alsatian wines.

Day 4

Today, visit the Meteor Brewery, founded in 1640, to taste the local beer. Then cruise to enchanting Saverne with walking and cycling opportunities along the way.

Day 5

Early risers enjoy a patisserie visit to watch the local bakers prepare the day's creations. After a cruise to Lutzelbourg, visit the mountaintop village of La Petite Pierre and view the outstanding René Lalique collection with its exceptional examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware. Before tonight's dinner on board the barge, visit a bierstub for apéritifs and flammenkeuche or tart flambée, a kind of Alsatian pizza.

Day 6

Cruise through the beautiful Alsatian countryside this morning before touring the Lehrer Crystal glassworks. The barge ascends a unique boat elevator at Arzviller prior to lunch on board. In Sarrebourg, visit a 13th-century chapel with remarkable stained glass by Marc Chagall. Tonight's dinner is a gala farewell hosted by your barge captain.
