It depends on how intrepid you want to be. All our camps and lodges offer immersion in nature, but delivered with luxury. A mobile set-up such as Kichakani Camp, which tracks the Great Migration, has traditional safari features including canvas tents and bucket showers. Olonana Lodge is brilliant for families, with its dedicated children's retreat, and Chobe Chilwero Lodge sits in a leafy fenced oasis and has creature comforts such as a split-level pool and a spa so it's perfect for safari first-timers.

Each of our unique properties is best placed to showcase the natural wonders of the diverse landscape in which it sits. For sweeping savannah views and game drives to see the Big Five, choose Ngorongoro Crater Camp in Tanzania; for gorilla trekking through the jungle, choose Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda; for mokoro excursions in the Okavango Delta and big cat spotting in Africa’s predator capital, choose Chief’s Camp in Botswana.

All food and drink, including daily sundowners, luxury accommodation and, depending on which property you visit, twice-daily game drives with expert guides, scenic excursions or wildlife encounters such as meeting the northern white rhino. Transfers from the nearest airstrip are included in your stay.

Each season has its own benefits – there’s no such thing as a bad time to visit. In Tambarare Camp, for example, the abundance of wildlife at the nearby waterhole is year-round, and visiting thundering Victoria Falls from Sussi & Chuma Lodge is always impressive. For specific game viewing such as the epic Great Migration, mobile Kichakani Camp is in an unrivalled location for river crossings from June to November and for wildebeest calving season from December to March. Seasonal mokoro (canoe) excursions through the Okavango Delta wetlands are a highlight at Stanley’s Camp and Baines’ Lodge from June to August (water levels allowing).

Planning a special safari holiday can sometimes start up to a year ahead, while for other travellers a trip to the African wilderness might be a more impulsive “let’s do it” decision. Booking a number of months in advance will ensure greater availability of rooms (especially in peak season) but our properties can often also accommodate last-minute bookings.

Yes, our team love to welcome guests of all ages at family-friendly properties such as Chobe Chilwero Lodge (for safari hunts in the shaded, fenced-in grounds), Olonana Lodge (for spotting the pod of resident hippos and learning Maasai bushcraft) and Okahirongo Elephant Lodge (for action-packed desert drives and e-bike rides). Many of our other properties welcome children from age six upwards.

The thrill of setting out on a daily game drive is an undeniable highlight of an A&K Sanctuary stay, while night drives, where available, unlock a whole new scene of after-dark activity.

Yes, all of our properties can be hired exclusively. But for groups who want added seclusion without taking over the entire property, Chief’s Camp and Olonana Lodge are both set up with a self-contained sanctuary within a sanctuary: the Geoffrey Kent Suite. At Olonana Lodge this two-bedroom hideaway has its own pool, chef, housekeeper, waiter and guide for a completely personalised stay, while Chief’s Camp has similar services as well as a private boma, bar and dining room.

A number of our properties incorporate a light-touch sustainable design using local materials and craftsmanship – the newly built Kitirua Plains Lodge is a great example of this, and Gorilla Forest Lodge sets the gold standard for eco luxury in Uganda. Other sustainability efforts across the portfolio include solar power, organic vegetable gardens and tree-planting projects.
