Clothing on safari should be comfortable and colours should blend in with nature as much as possible. Lightweight, breathable items in neutral colours such as khaki, beige, and green are recommended for game drives, along with comfortable closed-toe shoes and a wide-brimmed hat. Sunglasses and sunscreen are essential for UV protection, while insect repellent and a first-aid kit should also be packed. If you’re travelling during the rainy season, waterproof clothing and sturdy boots are a must. Back at camp, comfort is key, so feel free to dress as you wish; evening dress in the lodges and camps is ‘smart casual,’ there is no formal wear required.

The mobile set-up of Kichakani Camp tracks the Great Migration in two locations in different parts of Serengeti National Park. Guests can witness the drama of the Mara River crossings in the north, and the joy of wildebeest calving season in the south. Olonana Lodge is set right on the Mara River, bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and it’s a short drive from several river crossing points, where between July and October, herds of wildebeest and zebra thunder through the crocodile-infested river.

Kitirua Plains Lodge is opening in 2026, and is currently accepting reservations from mid-2026 and beyond. This innovatively designed property sits in harmony with its spectacular setting on the edge of Kenya’s Amboseli National Park, with Mount Kilimanjaro as a constant backdrop. Launching in November 2026, 32-suite Nile Seray is a sleek, contemporary riverboat with a chic top pool deck, two high-end dining areas and a spa and gym – for elevated cruising on Egypt’s timeless river.

With six luxury suites, Baines’ Lodge in the Okavango Delta is the smallest and most intimate A&K Sanctuary property. They are raised on stilts and linked by a wooden walkway for an added sense of privacy.

The day usually starts with morning coffee enjoyed alongside the sights and sounds of the wilderness, or riverbank, waking up. A hearty breakfast is followed by the first game drive or excursion of the day, led by expert guides. Lunch might be a bush picnic, or back at the lodge, camp or riverboat. Afternoons could be spent by the pool or enjoying a spa treatment, where these feature, or out on a thrilling activity. Three-course meals and sundowners are a highlight of each day, with night drives, stargazing, traditional music and even fireside storytelling among the experiences offered after dark.

Yes, our team love to welcome guests of all ages at family-friendly properties such as Chobe Chilwero Lodge, Olonana Lodge and Okahirongo Elephant Lodge. Many of our other African properties welcome children from age six upwards. Our luxury riverboats on the Nile welcome children of age 10 and up, while Zein Nile Chateau can accommodate children of any age. Pure Amazon welcomes those aged six and up, and has family-friendly interconnecting suites, children’s menus and engaging experiences.

Our A&K Philanthropy initiatives focus on education, enterprise, health and environment, aiming to support and empower local communities to facilitate the protection of their surroundings, and to ensure that the people in the places where we travel are also benefitting directly from tourism.

A number of our African properties incorporate a light-touch sustainable design using local materials and craftsmanship – the newly built Kitirua Plains Lodge is a great example of this, and Gorilla Forest Lodge sets the gold standard for eco luxury in Uganda. Other sustainability efforts across the portfolio include solar power, organic vegetable gardens and tree-planting projects. Many of our Nile riverboats incorporate local materials and craftsmanship, and the newly launched Peru Amazon is built to the highest standards with sustainability in mind.

Baines’ Lodge in the Okavango Delta offers romantic lantern-lit Star Baths set up on the deck, and four-seater safari vehicles for a more intimate experience.
