Santiago, Chile | Chile’s Charming Capital

Arrive in Santiago, the capital of Chile, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Tour the city and ride the funicular railway to the top of San Cristobal Hill, and then stroll the Pueblo de Los Dominicos Handicrafts Market and meet a local crafter. Return to the hotel for a welcome dinner.

San Pedro de Atacama | Moon Valley

This morning, fly to Calama and transfer overland to San Pedro de Atacama. Check in to your hotel and enjoy lunch. Later, take an afternoon excursion to the Moon Valley and savor a Scenic Sundowner overlooking the moon-like landscape.

DAY 3
Atacama Desert | Revitalizing Thermal Springs

Head out to Puritama Hot Springs for a chance to bathe and relax among a series of pools and resting areas. In the afternoon, visit Coyo for a taste of local food, stop at the picturesque village of Toconao and continue on to the Atacama Salt Flat and Laguna Chaxa’s breathtaking National Flamingo Reserve. This evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge.

DAY 4
Atacama Desert | Pristine Andean Lagoons

Stop at the village of Socaire, where you meet a local farmer and see firsthand the unique crops produced in the area. Continue to the high Andean lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques. This evening, stargaze at the crystal-clear sky. The near-perfect conditions — high altitude, few clouds, dryness of the Atacama Desert and virtually no light pollution — make it one of the finest places in the world for astronomical observation.

DAY 5
Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, Bolivia | Geologic Wonders

Journey to the frontier pass of Hito Cajon and into Bolivia. Tour the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve for its unique fauna and topography, and visit Laguna Verde with its emerald-green water and impressive views of Licancabur Volcano. Continue to the Sole de Mañana Geysers with its spectacular fumaroles and volcanic craters. Next, journey to Laguna Colorada, known for the red tone of its waters and considered to be the most important flamingo-watching site in the region.

DAY 6
Uyuni | Where the Land & Stars Meet

Take a full-day excursion to Uyuni, the largest salt flat on earth that also offers unmatched, stunning scenery. Pause for a gourmet lunch of local cuisine on the salt flat. Then, visit Incahuasi, an oasis with formations of algae and fossils.

DAY 7
Uyuni/La Paz | Mountain City with Breathtaking Views

Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to La Paz, and then embark on a half-day city tour of La Paz and Moon Valley. Majestic Mount Illimani frames the city’s indigenous, colonial and modern areas, as well as the Indian and Witch Doctor’s markets. Visit Moon Valley with its clay formation resembling the face of the moon. Your city tour includes a teleferico ride on the highest cable car in the world.

DAY 8
La Paz/Lake Titicaca, Peru | Hydrofoil Cruise

Travel to Huatajata on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Visit the Andean Roots Eco Village, Altiplano Museum, handicrafts village and the mortuary towers of Urus Chipayas. Meet the Limachi family, builders of legendary, eco-friendly reed ships. Continue overland to Cocotoni, where you board a hydrofoil and cruise to Moon Island and Iñak Uyu (the Sun Virgins Temple), and then to Sun Island’s “Grand Stairs” and the Scared Fountain, believed to give eternal youth and happiness. Continue cruising to Copacabana and visit the shrine of the Dark Virgin before journeying overland to your hotel.

DAY 9
Lake Titicaca | People of the Floating Islands

Travel to the legendary Uros Floating Islands to meet a local family and learn about their proud culture and impressive uses for totora reeds. View Taquile Island’s emblematic textiles and the weaving process.

Depart Lima

This morning, fly to Lima, where you may relax in a dayroom before departing for home.

Internal Air: Santiago/Calama; Uyuni/La Paz; Juliaca/Lima (from $625)

Minimum age is 10 years.

First group event: Santiago city tour at 2:00 p.m. on Day 1.

Last group event: arrival in Lima at 3:00 p.m. on Day 10.

Departures are guaranteed to operate with a minimum of 2 guests.
