Day 2
LISBON | CITY SIGHTSEEING

Tour Portugal’s capital city, starting in the Belém district, site of the glorious Jerónimos Monastery. Continue to the National Coach Museum, housed in a new building designed by Pritzker Prize winner Paulo Mendes da Rocha, to see its splendid collection of Baroque coaches. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

Day 3
SINTRA | MOUNTAIN MONASTERY & COASTAL VISTAS

Travel to Sintra, summer retreat of Portuguese monarchs and Moorish emirs. In this UNESCO World Heritage Site, visit the oldest royal palace in Portugal to view a splendid collection of Hispano-Arabic glazed tiles. Stop at the colorful Pena Palace, and stroll the town's lively streets and handicraft shops. Proceed to the mountaintop Capuchos Monastery to witness the ascetic life of the Franciscan monks who call it home. Then, descend to Guincho Beach to view Cape Rock, continental Europe’s westernmost point. Time permitting, continue to the fashionable fishing town of Cascais before returning to Lisbon via Estoril, along a scenic route.

COIMBRA | HISTORIC UNIVERSITY VISIT

Head north to Porto, visiting Coimbra, seat of Portugal's oldest university, en route. Discover its Old Cathedral Cloister and University Library before continuing to Porto.

PORTO | CITY TOUR & WINE TASTING

Tour Porto, visiting Cais da Ribeira, the quayside of the fascinating Ribeira district, as well as the opulent 19th-century Stock Exchange and the Gothic Sao Francisco Church. Enjoy a wine tasting at one of the city’s renowned port wine lodges, and spend the balance of your day at leisure.

DOURO VALLEY | A DELIGHTFUL DAY IN WINE COUNTRY

Today, explore the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set on terraced hills overlooking the Douro River. Follow the river upstream from the port city of Regua, stopping at the Sandeman winery at Quinta do Seixo for a tasting. Continue to the Pinhão to see the distinctive glazed tiles of the railway station before heading north to Vila Real. Here, explore the Casa de Mateus — a Baroque masterpiece surrounded by sumptuous gardens. After your relaxing day roaming through wine country, return to Porto.

SAN SEBASTIAN | CULINARY EPICENTER

This morning, explore San Sebastian with your expert guide, taking in the fascinating Old Town, the iconic The Comb of the Wind sculpture on the horseshoe bay of La Concha, and the promontory of Monte Igeldo. Continue on to the nearby fishing village of Getaria. Visit the Balenciaga Museum, dedicated to dress designer Cristobal Balenciaga, who was born in the village. On the hills overlooking the sea are several of the most important vineyards producing small-batch txacolí. Take a tour and enjoy a tasting before returning to San Sebastian. This evening, experience the real soul of Basque cuisine in its small bars and restaurants that throng the narrow streets of the Parte Vieja — the oldest district in town — accompanied by your local guide. Along the way, you may sample a wide variety of pintxos (local tapas), for which the region is known.
