Muscat | A Bustling Souk
Discover the city of Muscat, seeing the Grand Mosque, constructed of Rajasthani sandstone, and the Muttrah souk, a traditional Omani market filled with frankincense, silver handicrafts and pashmina shawls. At the Bait Al Zubair museum, see archeological relics, clothing and jewelry that offer insight into Omani culture and history. At the Sultan’s Palace, visit the Mirani and Jalali forts, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Return to your hotel, with time at leisure.
Sur | Green Sea Turtles
Follow the coast to Sur, passing through the village of Quriyat and seeing Bimah Sinkhole — a limestone crater — en route. Continue to Wadi Tiwi, with its deep, narrow gorges carved from towering seaside cliffs. In Sur, visit the fishermen’s harbor and the dhow building yard to learn how Omani wooden boats are built by hand. Tonight, arrive in Ras el-Jinz, where green turtles nest on calm beaches. Witness this natural phenomenon firsthand.
Wadi Bani Khalid | Intersecting the Dunes
Drive over Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and Hassan to reach Wadi Bani Khalid, an oasis of shaded palms and natural pools. You may opt to take a dip in the clear, deep, cool waters. Proceed to the undulating red and white Wahiba Sands, taking note of pretty villages that cling to the slopes of the rugged mountainside en route. Set out to discover the boundless dunes by 4x4 vehicle. Spend the rest of the night at leisure.
Nizwa | Historic Fortress
Drive to the historic city of Nizwa, where you visit its fort, a converted military stronghold with panoramic views of the ancient town and surrounding mountains. Return to your hotel, with time at leisure.
United Arab Emirates | Time to Unwind
Visit the small village of El Ayn, seeing its Bronze Age necropolises. Cross the United Arab Emirates’ border and proceed to Abu Dhabi, where you check in to your luxury hotel. Spend the rest of the day and the next at leisure, enjoying your resort facilities. You may also opt to visit Ferrari World.
Abu Dhabi | The Art of Falconry
Take a guided tour of Abu Dhabi, seeing the Falcon Hospital and Manarat Al Saadiyat, a falconry museum (schedule permitting). See the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque, followed by Al Hosn Palace, now a center for documentation and research. Visit Manarat Al Saadiyat, an arts center that offers insight into local culture. Drive along the beautiful Corniche for panoramic city views en route to Dubai. Check in to your hotel.
Dubai | Luxury Dinner Cruise
Begin the day marveling at the world’s tallest building: Burj Khalifa, situated next to the massive Dubai Mall. Visit the aquarium, which brims with the aquatic life, including sharks and stingrays. See the Dubai Marina district, which features the world’s largest man-made island, Palm Jumeirah. Visit Madinat Jumeirah bazaar before checking in to your luxurious hotel. Dubai | Dining Beneath Twinkling Skies
Drive to the heritage area of Bastakiya, where you discover Al Fahidi Fort, site of the Dubai Museum. Continue to Abra, crossing the creek by water taxi. Stroll through the spice and gold souks. See Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah Mosque. In the afternoon, embark on a heritage safari by 1950’s Land Rover, skirting the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve in search of local wildlife.
