Laikipia Plateau | Grassy Plains & Breathtaking Valleys
Fly this morning from Nairobi to the Loisaba Conservancy, set on the Laikipia Plateau, an area the same size as Ngorongoro Crater and larger than many of Kenya’s principal national parks. To the south, the grassy plains of the plateau break into valleys, cliffs and escarpments that frame stunning views up to snowy Mount Kenya. Enjoy lunch at the camp, followed by an afternoon game drive capped off with a Scenic Sundowner.
Laikipia Plateau | Design Your Day
On an early morning game drive, immerse yourself in the Loisaba Conservancy, a haven for more than 250 species of birds and 50 species of wildlife. Among the many fascinating animals, elephant, buffalo, Grevy’s zebra and greater kudu abound. Also be on the lookout for big cats, and even wild dogs, for many years thought regionally extinct. After breakfast, enjoy one of these Design Your Day activities.
Take a Walking Safari with a Samburu Guide to view and learn about the stunning diversity of Loisaba up close.
Ride by Horse or Camel, drawing gently near plains and forest animals, such as zebras, giraffes and even elephants.
Visit an Anti-Poaching Dog Unit to discover their daily routine and watch an anti-poaching demonstration.
Return to your camp for lunch and an afternoon at leisure. Enjoy dinner in camp on a relaxing evening under the stars.
Masai Mara Game Reserve | Where Lions Roam
After breakfast this morning, fly to the renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve. Here in the Masai Mara, a vast plain teeming with animals, discover the greatest concentration of species in the country. The action never seems to stop, and the chain of command begins with the Mara’s lion population, the largest in Kenya. After settling in, embark on a thrilling game drive followed by a Scenic Sundowner.
Masai Mara Game Reserve | Into the Bush
Spend the next two exciting days at your camp, driving across the sprawling savanna in search of abundant game in one of Kenya’s most spectacular game reserves. Running along the Tanzanian border, the Mara forms an essential part of the Serengeti ecosystem. Each year, more than a million wildebeest, alongside zebra and gazelle, march north to graze on the Mara’s lush grasses as part of the Great Migration’s annual cycle. Follow the Mara River to see crocodiles basking in the sun; hippos as they wallow in muddy water; or monkeys swinging madly overhead through the trees. In place of a morning game drive on either day, enjoy an optional early-morning hot air balloon ride (at an additional cost), observing Africa’s wild game from a unique vantage point. Visit a nearby Maasai village for firsthand insight into their unique way of life.
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania | Vast Vistas
Depart the Mara this morning and fly south to Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Covering 10,000 square miles, the Serengeti is Tanzania’s most famous national park, home to dozens of species including antelope, hyenas, leopards, giraffes, lions, buffalo and cheetahs. After arriving at your lodge, take part in a late afternoon game drive (time permitting) before sitting down to a delicious dinner.
Serengeti National Park | Seeking the Big Five
Explore the Serengeti for two days, enjoying morning and afternoon game viewing in this vast, sun-drenched region. Rivers flow through the park, providing habitats for a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles, and antelope can be seen feeding on the plains. Search for Africa’s iconic Big Five, (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and Cape buffalo) as well as the lesser-known but fascinating Little Five — ant lion, leopard tortoise, elephant shrew, rhinoceros beetle and buffalo weaver — which may be hiding behind a stone or resting on an acacia branch. Return to your lodge each day beneath a golden sunset.
Bid farewell to the Serengeti today and fly to Arusha. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel, where a comfortable dayroom awaits. Enjoy the amenities of your cozy lodge — which shares the grounds of a working coffee farm. Savor an A&K-exclusive experience, sitting down to a Swahili-inspired lunch on the beautiful shores of Lake Duluti. This evening, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departing flight.
