A&K Sanctuary

A&K Sanctuary
A&K Sanctuary offers a collection of luxurious camps and lodges in Africa, riverboats in Egypt and, for the first time, will be expanding to Peru with a riverboat. The collection offers seamless adventures with expert guides and unparalleled service, allowing guests to immerse themselves in nature, culture, and local communities.
A&K Sanctuary Expansion in 2025
AKTG is significantly investing in its portfolio of camps, lodges, and riverboats under its A&K Sanctuary brand, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024. This investment underscores A&K's commitment to delivering authentic experiences, exceptional service, and unwavering conservation efforts.
In Peru, Pure Amazon, A&K's first foray in South America, will set sail in mid-2025. In Africa, A&K's homeland, the reimagined Gorilla Forest Lodge and Baines' Lodge are the first in a series of exciting developments for A&K Sanctuary. A&K Philanthropy (AKP) will feature prominently in these efforts, improving the health, education, and economic well-being of local communities while promoting conservation awareness.
All designs for our Africa portfolio have been done in partnership with Luxury Frontiers, a design firm specialising in architecture and interior design for immersive eco-tourism hospitality. Their nature-centric and sustainable design principles create unique, sensory-rich experiences that connect guests with the local environment.
NEW: Gorilla Forest Lodge, An A&K Sanctuary, Uganda
Reopening May 2025

Nestled within Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the redesigned Gorilla Forest Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary, offers a luxurious and sustainable retreat. Reopening in mid-2025, this unique lodge, the only luxury option inside the park gates, provides unparalleled gorilla trekking access. Luxury Frontiers' design honors this pristine wilderness, creating a gateway to transformative experiences. The transformation of the existing camp into a 10-suite lodge features significantly enlarged suites with a sophisticated, nature-inspired aesthetic. Floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive decks seamlessly blend indoors and out, immersing guests in the rainforest. The design draws inspiration from the forest's vibrant textures and Ugandan heritage, incorporating vernacular building techniques and locally sourced materials like banana leaves and papyrus reeds. The design emphasizes open layouts, natural light, and earthy tones, fostering a tranquil atmosphere while minimizing environmental impact and celebrating local craftsmanship. Guests can also indulge in impeccable dining, relax in the expanded spa, and contribute to A&K Philanthropy’s local initiatives.

NEW: Baines' Lodge, An A&K Sanctuary, Okavango Delta, Botswana
Reopening Summer-2025

Baines' Lodge, a jewel in the portfolio, makes a powerful impression despite its intimate size of just six suites. Situated in Botswana's UNESCO-listed Okavango Delta, a vital wetland teeming with iconic African wildlife, the lodge draws inspiration from the 19th-century explorer and artist Thomas Baines, though the explorer himself could never have imagined such chic and sumptuous accommodations. The newly redesigned lodge blends the spirit of adventure with modern luxury, creating a living gallery where each structure frames the Delta's beauty. Perched above the Boro River in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Baines' Lodge offers a unique blend of refined aesthetics and the untamed spirit of the African bush, inviting guests to experience the Delta as if stepping into a work of art. The design emphasizes a seamless connection between indoors and out, with soft tones inspired by local flora, rich timbers, and muted walls creating a serene atmosphere. Large overhangs provide shade, while sustainably sourced timber ensures a lightweight, durable structure designed for minimal environmental impact. Even the main area's design incorporates an existing termite mound, honoring the site's ecosystem. Inside, the "African pavilion gallery" concept features open-plan spaces, high-end artwork, curated books, and accents inspired by Baines' own palette, creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to linger, discover, and dream. Beyond the lodge itself, guests can embark on game drives, mokoro rides, and scenic helicopter flights, exploring the diverse habitats and abundant wildlife of the Okavango Delta. Baines' Lodge is also committed to sustainability and employs staff from the local community.

STORY: Women’s Bike Shop
Our "Cycle of Giving" project empowers communities through women-owned businesses, adapting to local needs and resources. One successful model operates near Victoria Falls National Park in Nakatindi Village, Zambia, where a bike shop—one of several we've established —transforms discarded bikes into opportunities. Working with partners like Working Bikes, we collect and ship containers of used bicycles, providing them to local women who receive training in mechanics and business skills. These women then run independent social enterprises, refurbishing and selling the bikes at affordable prices, creating jobs, boosting local economies, and improving transportation access. The Nakatindi shop alone has refurbished and sold over 6,500 bikes since 2015. The "Cycle of Giving" continues beyond bikes: when a container is emptied, it's repurposed—becoming a bead-making workshop, a coffee shop, or another venture, maximizing the impact and sustainability of each location. This adaptable model has inspired the launch of additional locations, including a recent shop in Nkuringo.
