A Luxury Safari by Private Air Across the American West with Abercrombie & Kent Founder Geoffrey Kent
December 06, 2021
Explore the iconic parks of The American West by Private Air alongside Abercrombie & Kent founder Geoffrey Kent, a pioneer in experiential travel with the philosophy of ‘adventure by day, luxury by night.’ Experience the natural wonders of Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon and Arches in unparalleled luxury. Fly in comfort aboard a privately-chartered jet limited to just 22 guests, enjoying thrilling outdoor adventures and helicopter flightseeing, with access to sites not normally open to the public. Days are capped off with Michelin-starred meals and luxurious accommodations, field-to-fork cuisine, fine wines and artisanal cocktails.
“My Inspiring Expeditions have taken us into the heart of every continent — except North America,” explains Geoffrey Kent. “I am looking forward to finally exploring the ‘Serengeti of North America’ on game drives and hikes with wildlife biologists and expert local guides. This is the last large, nearly intact ecosystem in the United States, with more wildlife than anywhere else in the lower 48 states: moose, elk, wolves, grizzly bears and the nation’s largest public herd of bison. To truly appreciate the scale of this vast landscape, you must see it from the air.”
This Inspiring Expedition is packed with exclusive insider access experiences. After a welcome gala in San Francisco, guests savor private wine tastings and meals at some of the Napa Valley’s most acclaimed wineries, opened exclusively for A&K. These include a private oyster- and wine-tasting reception at the Michelin-starred Farmhouse Inn Restaurant, to dinner hosted by Tusk Estates owner Michael Uytengsu in his personal wine cave, as well as an interactive cooking demonstration, wine tasting and private vineyard dinner with the owner and winemaker at Peju Winery. “The cuisine throughout this itinerary is every bit as spectacular as the game viewing. I am especially looking forward to Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry, one of the few three-Michelin-star restaurants in the U.S.,” adds Kent.
From California, guests fly to Arizona to raft down the Colorado River through Glen Canyon and then explore the Grand Canyon alongside author Wayne Ranney, one of the most renowned specialists on canyon geology, who brings the story of the canyon to vivid life. Take in the best vistas and historic sites, including a private visit to the home and studio of the Kolb Brothers, the first to photograph the canyon in late 19th century. Enjoy a scenic lunch on a private point jutting out over the canyon, followed by a helicopter flight to see the chasm from a different perspective. End the evening at Amangiri with Navajo artist Shonto Begay, who shares images and stories over dinner.
Fly to Utah to explore Arches National Park, including formations off-limits to other visitors; then continue on to Wyoming for sundowners on a private terrace overlooking the Tetons. Take in the National Museum of Wildlife Art during dinner and a private, after-hours curator-led tour of the 5,000+ piece collection. Spot wildlife in the Grand Tetons and float down the Snake River in a dory before exploring Yellowstone, America’s first national park, with a park biologist.
Accommodations offer unparalleled luxury. Bardessono Hotel & Spa, nestled in the culinary heart of Napa Valley, Yountville, combines sustainability with luxury. Amangiri blends into the surrounding red rock canyons and towering plateaus with sweeping views towards Grand Staircase-Escalante. Amangani evokes the American West, from its redwood paneling to its blazing log fires, with views of the Tetons and Snake River Valley. The Aman Spa features a floatation therapy pavilion, a water pavilion with sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool and step pool, a fitness center and a yoga pavilion.
More Inspiring Expeditions in 2022
In Geoffrey Kent’s life, he’s travelled more than 18 million miles, to over 158 countries. But there are still places he wants to experience for himself and is excited to spend next year exploring them alongside A&K guests. Beginning with Royal & Ducal Castles (May 1-9, 2022), which offers a taste of life inside Britain’s grand country estates as a privileged guest; followed by an Around the World Inspiring Expedition by Private Jet (Oct 30-Nov 22, 2022) that includes Eritrea in East Africa, whose capital city of Asmara has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its eclectic modernist and Art Deco architecture; as well as stops in Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Maldives, Turkey, Benin, Brazil and New Orleans. To end the year, he will see guests off on Emperors & the South Pole (December 11-22, 2022)...a bucket list-breaking journey to a place fewer people have visited than Mount Everest.
