June 01, 2021
While the earliest travellers were traders who set out on expeditions to faraway places, today’s travellers are eager to follow in their footsteps after more than a year restricted to their home countries. Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has announced a second departure of Cultural Treasures: Around the World by Private Jet (May 28-June 19, 2022), which circumnavigates the globe in 23 days, after the first departure in 2022 sold out.
“For many, being at home during the pandemic ignited a curiosity about other cultures and the history that shaped them,” explains Ann Epting, Senior Vice President, Private Jet & Special Interest Travel. “We designed this itinerary to immerse guests in the touchstones that define these different civilizations, with access to some of the world’s most fascinating people, places and celebrations. The response from travel advisors was overwhelming with more than 40 guests on the waiting list so we’ve added a second departure.”
The route of Cultural Treasures includes such timeless destinations as Samarkand, Kathmandu and Abu Dhabi, where enduring history blends seamlessly with a bustling modern culture. Explore the fusion of cultures in Taipei, then fly to Taroko National Park for a hike through a dramatic marble gorge followed by a charming local cultural performance. Nepal offers incomparable views of Mount Everest by helicopter, while Bhutan affords a glimpse into a fiercely-protected traditional culture, as well as the opportunity for a pilgrimage hike up to Tiger’s Nest Monastery. After stopping in Agra for a royal banquet and a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, travel back in time along the Silk Road and celebrate with an open-air private concert in Samarkand’s Registan Square. Jet off to Abu Dhabi, a city transformed in contrast to the Bedouin encampments in the otherworldly desert of Wadi Rum and Petra. The journey ends with a taste of Sicilian dolce vita in Palermo, where guests are invited to explore picturesque villages from a unique perspective behind the wheel of a vintage Italian sports car.
Privileged Access & Personalized Experiences
Private jet travel with Abercrombie & Kent is filled with invitation-only events, including a tshechu ceremony, a longstanding Bhutanese tradition with masked dancers; after-hours access and expert guidance through the National Palace Museum in Taipei; and an exclusive Sicilian welcome party styled after a traditional wedding, with celebratory dancing, music and food –arranged exclusively for A&K guests.
Thoughtful curation makes it possible for guests to personalize their experience with a choice of Design Your Day® options, from relaxing spa treatments to active outdoor excursions. In Abu Dhabi, guests may explore the historical landmark Qasr Al Hosn, the oldest stone building in the city; play 18 holes at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club; or discover Dubai by land and air and experience a private camel race.
One of A&K’s most experienced Tour Directors orchestrates the journey from start to finish. On the ground, guests travel in small groups of no more than 16, each led by a Tour Manager, assisted by expert local guides who share their personal stories and lend insights beyond any guidebook. For peace of mind, there is also an onboard Physician.
Accommodations reflect the distinctive character of each destination and offer authentic hospitality. These include Dwarika’s in Kathmandu, recognized by UNESCO for its extraordinary traditional woodcarvings, and The Oberoi Amarvilas with views of the Taj Mahal from every suite; as well as the scenic COMO Uma Paro, reserved exclusively for A&K Private Jet guests.
A&K’s Travelling Bell Boy® service ensures luggage is waiting in guest rooms at each hotel. Guests may also take advantage of complimentary laundry service, Traveller’s Valet®, midway through the journey. Prior to departure, guests can save time and hassle with A&K’s White Glove Visa and Passport Handling, a concierge service that expedites visa and passport applications.
Fine Dining & Entertainment
Meals are more than just a chance to dine at the end of the day – they are a feast for the senses, with local entertainment and stunning natural backdrops. Experience the thrill of Formula 1 racing during a private auto race put on just for A&K guests at the Yas Marina Circuit, home to the annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix; sample the flavors of India at a Mughal-themed banquet in Agra; and experience the romance of the desert with a candlelit feast in Siq el-Barid (“Little Petra”).
Luxury in the Air
Travelling by private jet makes it possible to experience far more than on a conventional itinerary -- with greater space and privacy. Onboard, A&K’s chartered Boeing 757 has custom-designed Italian leather seats equipped with personal massage system, 4-way adjustable headrests and lumbar support, that open to fully lie-flat beds 6.5' long (79” pitch). Guests enjoy a fully stocked, open bar featuring top-shelf wine and spirits, in addition to first-class meal service with personalized espresso drinks. Completing the best-in-class in-flight experience is a dedicated cabin crew with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:7. Amenities are designed to make guests feel at home, including noise-cancelling headphones and curated entertainment selected to complement the itinerary.
Health & Safety
On A&K’s Private Jet journeys, guests travel in confidence knowing that A&K has enhanced health and safety protocols with a full-time physician accompanying guests throughout their entire journey, in the air and on the ground. A&K’s more than 55 offices around the world fully vet each on-the-ground partner and work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure they meet A&K’s exacting standards.
