Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Arrive in Arusha and at your lodge situated on the lush slopes of Mount Meru, overlooking coffee plantations and placid Lake Duluti.

Lake Duluti Serena Hotel
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park | Relaxing Amid Nature

Travel overland to small, wildlife-packed Lake Manyara National Park for a thrilling morning game drive. The scene is astonishing: you may spot hippos wallowing along the lakeshore, pelicans and storks scanning the water, monkeys leaping between the trees and giraffes dwarfed by the shade of a 1,000-year-old baobab. Continue to your lodge, which sits atop an escarpment overlooking the vast expanse of the Great Rift Valley. See a more complete picture of life here when you make an afternoon Market Visit to Mto wa Mbu, where you browse stalls stocked with local produce. Return to your lodge for a progressive Chef’s Table experience in the lodge kitchen, as the chef walks you through the preparation of local dishes — such as ugaali and kachumbari — and you enjoy the opportunity to sample each. Enjoy time to unwind and refresh before joining your fellow guests tonight for a welcome dinner.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater | Stellar Sightings

Depart for Ngorongoro Crater, stopping at Gibb’s Farm for an organic lunch. Afterward, meander through the lush grounds, or embark on a hike to the nearby waterfalls. Proceed to your lodge, taking a moment to absorb the scenery. Perched on the rim of a collapsed, once-active volcano, the caldera is a permanent sanctuary for lions, hyenas and rare, endangered black rhinos. At almost any moment, expect to find wildlife ambling across.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater | Meet the Maasai

After breakfast, descend to the short grass prairies of Ngorongoro Crater, a haven for elephants, wildebeests and gazelles. Watch for flocks of pink flamingos at the crater lake, as well as other winged wonders soaring above the tree tops. After a picnic lunch, visit a Maasai village, where you meet with a village elder to learn about the tribe’s traditional, nomadic lifestyle and coexistence with wildlife. You also partake in an Artisan Visit, when the villagers share a bead work demonstration.

Days 6-7: Serengeti National Park | Land of the Migration

Spend the next two days intersecting the arid, savagely beautiful Serengeti plains. As the animals begin to stir, set off on first-light game drives across the picturesque park for a show of prolific wildlife, each animal undertaking their morning regime. You might spot hippos returning to water after miles spent foraging for food overnight, elephants rustling through trees in search of breakfast, and sated lions, arriving back from a hunt with wide, yellow eyes. During an afternoon game drive, search for elusive cheetahs, crocodiles and the stunningly beautiful leopard. You won’t soon forget a very special sunset, when your guides serve you Sundowner cocktails right on the Serengeti plains. On your final night, join fellow guests for a festive farewell dinner.
