Explore the palace’s numerous buildings, halls and pavilions, including the Throne Room, Coronation Hall and Funeral Palace. Continue on to explore Wat Po, one of the grandest and oldest temples in Bangkok and home to the enormous gold-plated Reclining Buddha. After lunch at a local restaurant, cruise through Bangkok's canals, a lively network of waterways teeming with commercial barges and whistling passenger vessels. Pass the striking Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), the morning sun reflecting from millions of colorful porcelain fragments embedded in the temple walls. Finally, dock to tour the Royal Barge Museum’s collection of elaborate royal sailing junks.

Founded by royalty more than a century ago, it is the best place in the city to find typical Northern Thai food and clothing. From here, take a rickshaw ride along famous Tapae Road, through ancient city walls. Continue along Rajdamnern Road to Wat Phra Singh, where you visit the ancient complex that holds the sacred Phra Buddha Singh image. Move on to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, set on a mountain 3,500 feet above sea level. It is reached by a climb of 300 steps or by a tram. Legend says the temple, considered the most important in Chiang Mai, was built after a bone of Buddha was carried up the mountain on the back of a white elephant.
