Day 1: Arrive Barcelona, Spain

Arrive in Barcelona, where you are met by your Guardian Angel, transferred to your hotel and assisted with check-in. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 2: Barcelona | Gaudí’s Greatest & Tapas Tour

Accompanied by your private guide, discover the masterpieces of Catalonia's famed architect, Antoni Gaudí, starting with the Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera. Next, visit the visually arresting Sagrada Familia Basilica. Started in 1882 and still not complete, it combines Gothic influences with Art Nouveau. Finally, stop at Parc Guell, a beautiful municipal garden with a gatehouse where Gaudí lived during his later years, to view furnishings he designed as well as personal memorabilia. This evening, enjoy a tapas tour, strolling between several of Barcelona's most interesting tapas bars to sample the savory snacks.

Day 3: Barcelona | Into the Gothic Quarter

Discover the true heart of the old city — its medieval Gothic Quarter, where you explore narrow, labyrinthine streets and quiet squares that are quite distinct from the rest of the city. View the Shlomo Ben Adret, one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, dating to 1306, and take in the magnificent 13th century cathedral, notable for its fine Gothic chapels, medieval choir stalls and shady cloister. Then, visit the spectacular Palau de la Música Catalana, a symphony of stained glass, ceramics, ironwork, stone and brick created by Gaudi’s great contemporary Domènech i Montaner that is now classified as a World Heritage Site. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Madrid | City Tour & Prado Museum

This morning, board the AVE train to Madrid, where you are met on arrival and privately transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, tour Spain’s capital city, visiting the Royal Palace, its rooms filled with art treasures and antiques. Continue to the world-famous Prado Museum to admire works by Spain's three great masters: Goya, Velazquez and El Greco.

Day 5: Toledo or El Escorial | Your Choice of Excursions

Today, you may choose a full-day excursion to Toledo, visiting its sixth-century Cathedral, and proceeding to the church of Santo Tome, to view El Greco’s The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. Stop at the 14th-century El Transito Synagogue, and tour the House and Museum of El Greco. Alternatively, journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of El Escorial, a sprawling royal palace with a huge church at its heart. Before returning to Madrid, you may wish to take in the beautiful walled city of Avila.

Day 6: Córdoba/Granada | Jewish Quarter & Mezquita

Board a train to Córdoba, one of Spain's oldest cities. On arrival, walk through the flower-filled streets of the Jewish Quarter and visit the medieval Mezquita, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From its humble beginnings as a small Christian Visigoth temple, the site was greatly expanded by the Muslims who conquered Spain in 711 and is today considered a superb example of Moorish architecture. View its Christian Baroque nave, in the heart of the former mosque. This afternoon, ride through spectacular countryside to Granada.

Day 7: Granada | Heritage of Moors and Monarchs

Visit the Alhambra, a remnant of the Muslim occupation of Andalusia. Admire the Alcazaba fortress and Royal Palace of this once mighty citadel, and then stroll through the lovely gardens of the nearby Generalife Palace. Continue to the city for a walking tour that includes the Royal Chapel, burial place of the Catholic Monarchs who financed the explorations of Christopher Columbus, as well as the cathedral. Time permitting, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Albaicín to learn about its Moorish history or the Sacromonte area, noted for its cave houses.

Day 8: Ronda/Seville | Into the Arena

Journey to Seville, stopping en route in Ronda, a city dramatically perched high above a deep gorge, where you join your local guide on a stroll along narrow streets and visit the Plaza de Toros (bullring), an impressive arena with Moorish architecture. Continue to Seville and settle into your luxurious hotel.

Day 9: Seville | From the Cathedral to the Barrio

Explore the historic heart of Seville, starting with the immense 15th-century Seville Cathedral, a breathtaking jewel of medieval Christendom. Then, behold the delicately carved La Giralda, a soaring Moorish minaret from the 12th century. Visit the magnificent 14th-century Alcázar and enjoy a walk through the charming Barrio de Santa Cruz.

Day 10: Évora, Portugal/Lisbon | Walled City & Wine Tasting

Continue to Lisbon, stopping en route to enjoy a private wine tasting in a local vineyard. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel.

Day 11: Lisbon | City Sightseeing

Tour Portugal’s capital city, starting in the Belém district, site of the glorious Jerónimos Monastery. Continue to the new National Coach Museum, designed by Pritzker Prize winner Paulo Mendes da Rocha, to see its splendid collection of Baroque coaches. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

Day 12: Sintra/Cascais | Mountain Monastery & Coastal Vistas

Travel to Sintra, summer retreat of Portuguese monarchs and Moorish emirs. In this UNESCO World Heritage Site, visit the oldest royal palace in Portugal to view a splendid collection of Hispano-Arabic glazed tiles. Stop at the colorful Pena Palace, and stroll the town's lively streets and handicraft shops. Proceed to the mountaintop Capuchos Monastery to witness the ascetic life of the Franciscan monks who call it home. Then, descend to Guincho Beach to view Cape Rock, continental Europe’s westernmost point. Time permitting, continue to the fashionable fishing town of Cascais before returning to Lisbon via Estoril, along a scenic route.

Day 13: Coimbra/Oporto | Historic University Visit

Head north to Oporto, visiting Coimbra, seat of Portugal's oldest university, en route. Discover its Old Cathedral Cloister and University library before continuing to Oporto.

Day 14: Oporto | City Tour & Wine Tasting

Tour Oporto, known as Porto in Portuguese, visiting Cais da Ribeira, the quayside of the fascinating Ribeira district, as well as the opulent 19th-century Stock Exchange and the Gothic Sao Francisco Church. Enjoy a wine tasting at one of the city’s renowned port wine lodges, and spend the balance of your day at leisure.

Day 15: Douro Valley | A Delightful Day in Wine Country

Today, explore the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set on terraced hills overlooking the Douro River. Follow the river upstream from the port city of Regua, stopping at the Sandeman winery at Quinta do Seixo for a tasting. Continue to the Pinhão to see the distinctive glazed tiles of the railway station before heading north to Vila Real. Here, explore the Casa de Mateus — a Baroque masterpiece surrounded by sumptuous gardens. After your relaxing day roaming through wine country, return to Oporto.

Set out for nearby Serra de Montserrat, an impressive multi-peaked mountain of pink rock. Among its towering crags, visit the Benedictine abbey - a domed basilica that houses the shrine of the venerated Black Virgin of Montserrat.
