Essential Egypt: The Pyramids & a Nile River Cruise

Day 1: Arrive Cairo, Egypt

Arrive in Cairo, where you are met and transferred to your hotel on the banks of the Nile.

Day 2: Cairo | The Great Pyramid

Today enjoy a full day of Cairo sightseeing with your local guide. Visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, home to the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including treasures from Tutankhamun, the famed Mummy Room and artifacts dating back to 4000 BC. After lunch, embark on a tour of the Giza Plateau, site of the ancient pyramids of Mycerinus, Chefren and the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore the interior of one of these legendary pyramids. Visit the Solar Boat Museum and see the Great Sphinx, carved out of a single piece of rock in the shape of a lion with a pharaoh's head. Tonight your local guide hosts your welcome dinner.

Day 3: Aswan | Cruising the Nile

An early morning flight takes you to Aswan. Then board a short motorboat ride to visit the majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilika. Later, you are transferred to the pier to board Sanctuary ‘Sun Boat IV,’ moored in a private dock in Aswan, where you are welcomed by the reception staff and your local Egyptologist. As you cruise the Nile, sit down to afternoon tea. This evening, join fellow guests for a welcome reception and dinner.

Days 4-5: The Nile River | Ancient Wonders

Sail to Kom Ombo and visit to the magnificent Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. Later, delve into local cuisine during an Egyptian cooking lesson on board. This afternoon, explore the Temple of Horus at Edfu. Tonight, attend a festive “Egyptian Night” costume party and dinner, featuring live music and the chance to dress up in traditional Egyptian galabeyya. The following day, arrive in Luxor, where your Egyptologist guides you around the strikingly graceful Temple of Luxor and the sprawling Temple of Karnak. After lunch, visit the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. On the way back to the river Nile, pass by the famed Colossi of Memnon, known in Ancient Greek times for their haunting voices at dawn. Return to your vessel for afternoon tea on board. This evening, enjoy your last dinner on the Nile.

Day 6: Cairo | Journey’s End

Disembark ‘Sun Boat IV’ and fly to Cairo, where you are transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the amenities of your luxury hotel. Tonight, bid goodbye to your Egyptologist at a farewell dinner with fellow guests.
