Day 1: Arrive Tokyo, Japan

Arrive in Tokyo, via Narita Airport, where you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Tokyo | Youth Culture

Begin a day filled with fun for all ages, first visiting the Imperial Palace Plaza, before continuing to the Asakusa Kannon Temple. Then, stop at the Nakamise Shopping Arcade, a covered street of shops offering a wide selection of souvenirs, from silk scarves to Buddhist devotional items. Also visit the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest broadcast tower in the world. Proceed to Akihabara, a center for Japanese youth culture, from manga to cosplay. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 3: Tokyo | Taiko Drumming & Harajuku Fashion

Walk through the lively Tsukiji Fish Outer Market to see the hundreds of varieties caught daily. Next, take part in an exciting Taiko Experience, receiving a lesson in playing the traditional wadaiko (Japanese drums). Then, explore Shibuya, a shopping area favored by youth and noted for its nightlife. Witness the scramble at the busy intersection called Shibuya Crossing and check out the fashions local teens are wearing near Harajuku station on Takeshita Street. Continue to the Samurai Museum to learn about the customs and culture of this elite-warrior class and see their unique swords, armor and weaponry.

Day 4: Hakone | Boat Cruise with Views of Mount Fuji

Today, travel to Hakone, a popular hot-spring resort, and view the forested slopes of Hakone National Park. Embark on a scenic boat cruise of Lake Ashi, gliding past the wooded mountain slopes that surround it. Back on shore, ride a cable car on the Komagatake Ropeway for a spectacular view of Mount Fuji, and then do some light trekking near the quiet lake. Tonight, enjoy amazing service and traditional Japanese cuisine at Gôra Kadan, a top-rated ryokan (traditional inn).

Day 5: Osaka | Ride a Bullet Train

This morning, stroll the grassy hillsides of Hakone’s Open Air Museum, taking in sculptures and artwork from the likes of Picasso and Henry Moore. Later, Ride Like a Local by bullet train past Mount Fuji to Osaka, the second-largest city in Japan. Transfer to your hotel and settle in for the evening.

Day 6: Osaka | Nara Park & Dotonbori

Visit the eight-century Todai-ji Temple to see its bronze Buddha statue, the largest in Japan, and wander through Nara Park, home to over a thousand tame deer. Next, take in the Dotonbori Canal District, a glittering symbol of Osaka famed for its vibrant nightlife and unique foods, such as takoyaki (octopus balls). Stroll the lovely grounds and gardens of Osaka Castle and travel to the top of the 40-story Umeda Sky Building for breathtaking views of the city from an open-air observation deck that is aptly known as the “floating garden.”

Day 7: Kyoto | Kimono-Wearing Kids

Travel to Kyoto to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine. Then, enjoy the opportunity for children to experience wearing a kimono. This afternoon, young guests, led by an A&K Young Explorers Guide, receive a lesson in origami and explore the Kyoto Aquarium. Meanwhile, adults take in the stunning views of Kyoto from the massive veranda of Kiyomizu Temple, and then stroll the Gojozaka Hills — an area known for its pottery — and tour the home of a famous potter. Cap your day with a Scenic Sundowner at Kangaan Temple.

Day 8: Kyoto | Bamboo Forest & Golden Pavilion

Ride the Sagano Scenic Railway and enjoy the beauty of Kyoto's surrounding countryside. Discover the lush and peaceful Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and visit the meticulously manicured Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). Next, visit the 400-year-old Nishiki Market to browse its exquisite displays of produce and seafood. Tonight, gather for a farewell dinner and toast your time in Japan.

Day 9: Depart Kyoto

After breakfast, transfer to either Kansai International Airport or Itami Airport, both located outside Osaka, to depart.
