Tailor Made Cruising Turkey & the Turquoise Coast

Day 1: Arrive Istanbul, Turkey

Upon arrival in Istanbul, you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus

Days 2-3: Istanbul | Bazaars & Beautiful Architecture

See the sixth-century Basilica Cistern. Spanning more than two acres, it features 336 columns over 25 feet high to support its ceiling. Continue to Hagia Sophia (Church of Divine Wisdom), an awe-inspiring work of architecture. Proceed to the Archaeological Museum and, then, the periphery of the ancient city to view the impressive city walls, constructed between 413 and 447 by Theodosius II. Enclosing the seven hills of the city, this sophisticated defense system was impregnable until the Ottoman siege of 1453. After seeing Chora Church and its rich Byzantine interior, end the day exploring the Pera district on foot. The following day, pay a visit to the massive Suleymaniye Mosque and the Rustem Pasha Mosque in the Blacksmiths Market, situated next to the vaulted Spice Bazaar. Then, wander through the labyrinthine Grand Covered Bazaar, with its dizzying array of 3,500 stalls filled with gold and silver jewelry, rugs, carpets, antiques, tiles and leather goods.

Days 4-5: Izmir | Exploring Ephesus

After visiting breathtaking Topkapi Palace — the center of Ottoman government and the court — transfer to the airport and fly to Izmir, where you see the restored Agora, the market of ancient Smyrna. Walk Kemeralti Bazaar and check in to your luxury hotel with time at leisure. After breakfast the next morning, embark on an excursion to Ephesus, one of the best-preserved and largest classical cities in the Eastern Mediterranean. Unmatched as an archaeological site, the classical city dates back to 6000 BC.

Days 8-10: Cruising Through Turkey | Travelling by Private Gulet

Make your way to the Caunos and the Koycegiz River Delta. Upon arrival in Dalyan, take a put-put boat ride through the reed-beds of River Dalyan to reach the once-mighty Caunos. As you step ashore, walk amid gorgeous cotton fields and pomegranate, peach, apricot and olive orchards, arriving at a saddle-shaped hill overlooking the once-great harbor. Explore the multitude of ruins, which include a mysterious celestial “measuring” platform, ancient pillars, sacred enclosures dedicated to a number of local divinities, a large theater, baths, harbor facilities and offices. Continue toward the seashore, stopping at beautiful Iztuzu Beach, where great sea turtles nest. Every summer, the turtles lay their eggs in the sand and the newborn turtles race to the safety of the water at dawn. In the afternoon, board your gulet and set out for the picturesque Gocek Gulf. Spend the next two full days discovering the region by privately chartered gulet. The route and sites will vary based on preferences, seasonality and availability. However, visits may include Cleopatra’s Bath bay with views of the surrounding pine forests; the ruins of unexcavated ancient Lydae; Olu Deniz, a scenic inland bay; and Gemiler Island, a picturesque bay surrounded by mountains and Byzantine ruins. You may also step ashore on St. Nicholas Island to see the remains of a medieval monastic community.
