Days 2-3: Bangkok | Bustling City
Begin your day at the Grand Palace, one of the most beautiful examples of an ancient Siamese court. See the Throne Hall, the Coronation Hall, the Reception Palace and the Funeral Palace. Explore Wat Po, one of the largest, oldest temples in Bangkok. See the gold-plated Reclining Buddha within; the soles of its feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl and the 108 designs are ancient symbols by which an enlightened one can be identified. In the afternoon, embark on a private boat to explore the Nonthaburi Klongs (canals) on the mighty Chao Phraya River. Pass the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), embedded with pieces of multi-colored porcelain. Disembark to explore the Royal Barge Museum, where several former war vessels are displayed. The next morning, discover Jim Thompson’s Thai-style teak house and garden, now a private museum filled with a priceless collection of Asian antiques, pottery and other curiosities. Proceed to the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. Spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring Bangkok at your own pace.
