Day 1: Arrive Shanghai, China
Upon arrival in modern Shanghai, you are met and transferred to your luxurious Art Deco-style hotel.
Day 2: Shanghai | Stunning City
Discover Shanghai's past and present during a full-day guided tour. Begin in the old quarter, where you stroll through Fang Bang Road’s sprawling street market. Continue to lovely Yu Garden, an oasis of tranquility amid the bustle of city life. Then, pause for tea and have lunch at a local restaurant. Explore the Shanghai Museum, seeing its exceptional collection of historically significant art and housewares. As the day comes to a close, marvel at the incredibly accurate, detailed model of the city housed at the Urban Planning Exhibition Center. Tonight, take in a traditional acrobatic performance, witnessing a timeless, graceful spectacle passed on through the generations.

Days 3-4: Guilin | Lovely Landscape
Fly to Guilin, where you are met and transferred to your hotel along the banks of the Li River. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. The following day, board a shared-group boat for a scenic, full-day Li River cruise and guided countryside tour. Absorb the beauty of dramatic limestone pinnacle formations on riverbanks and learn about the legends associated with these outcroppings. This idyllic countryside has inspired Chinese poets and painters for generations. After lunch on board, arrive in Yangshuo Village, where you may explore the city and local market. Return by land to Guilin, passing tranquil rice paddies en route.

Days 5-6: Chengdu | Seeing Pandas
This morning, visit Reed Flute Cave and Fubo and Elephant Trunk Hills. This evening, fly to Chengdu —the capital of Sichuan Province — where you are met and transferred to your hotel. The next day, meet China’s furry ambassadors at the Chengdu Panda Breeding Center. In the evening, take in a Chengdu Face Changing Show, a captivating form of Sichuan opera.

Day 7: Xian | Archeological Marvels
Fly to Xian, where you get an introduction to recently unearthed archeological discoveries at the Yangling Museum en-route to your hotel. This museum represents the culmination of nearly 10 years of excavation work on an area surrounding the tomb of a Han emperor. While the actual imperial tomb of the emperor and his chief consort has yet to be opened, archeologists have excavated more than 20 satellite tombs, which have yielded a treasure throve of exquisite funerary pieces.

Day 8: Xian | Terra Cotta Warriors
Set out on a full-day, guided tour to explore Xian. Begin at the famous Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses dig site, among the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Great Mosque of Xian. Resembling a Buddhist Temple, it is regarded as one of the city’s most beautiful, unusual structures. Afterward, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which offers panoramic views of Xian.

Days 9-11: Beijing | The Great Wall
Fly to Beijing, where you are transferred to your luxury hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing. The following morning, set out on a guided tour of the Forbidden City, the largest ancient palatial structure in the world, and Tiananmen Square, a grand monument to the nation’s present-day government. After lunch at a restaurant known for its kung pao chicken, proceed to the Temple of Heaven, a massive complex offering insight into the life, culture and religion of the Ming Dynasty. Next, ride by pedicab through a hutong, a network of traditional neighborhoods with interconnecting lanes. On your final full day in this fascinating city, discover the well-preserved and less frequented Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China. Continue on a driving tour of sites from the 2008 Olympic Games. Visit the Summer Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you see its breathtaking imperial garden, pavilions, temples, pagodas, green pines and fragrant blossoms. Then, take a private boat ride on the shimmering waters of Kunming Lake (weather permitting).
