'Scottish Highlander'- Caledonian Canal & Loch Ness

Day 1: SUNDAY

Meet in Inverness for transfer to ‘Scottish Highlander,’ moored at Muirtown. After a welcome reception, cruise along the picturesque, heather-lined canal.

Day 2: MONDAY

Cruise to the hamlet of Dochgarroch. Visit the Glen Ord whisky distillery, which has been producing one of Scotland's best-known exports since 1838.

Day 3: TUESDAY

Visit 14th-century Cawdor Castle with its beautifully landscaped gardens and superb collection of tapestries, paintings and furniture. At Culloden Moor, see the site of the last major battle on British soil in 1746. Continue to Clava Cairns, a prehistoric clan burial site dating from 2,000 BC. Cruise Loch Ness in search of its infamous monster - said to inhabit the murky waters, which are over 700 feet deep.

Day 4: WEDNESDAY

Cruise up a staircase of five lochs in the village of Fort Augustus, continuing to the pretty village of Cullochy. Visit the imposing ruins of Urquhart Castle, set on a rocky peninsula on the banks of Loch Ness, making a scenic stop at Invermoriston Falls. Dinner is ashore tonight at a local restaurant.

Day 5: THURSDAY

Explore romantic Eilean Donan Castle this morning, the idyllic setting for films such as Highlander and James Bond's The World is Not Enough. Cruise to Laggan Locks, the overnight mooring.

Day 6: FRIDAY

Cruise across Loch Lochy to moor at Banavie. At Gairlochy, you may choose to visit the nearby Spean Bridge Woolen Mill or Clan Cameron Museum. Visit the evocative battlefields of Glencoe, scene of an infamous 17th-century massacre - one of the darkest days in Scottish history. Later, gather for a farewell dinner on board your barge.

Day 7: SATURDAY

After breakfast, transfer to Inverness where your journey ends.

On Day 3, Cawdor Castle can be visited from May 01 thru Oct 08. For cruises earlier or later in the season, a visit to 18th-century Fort George will be substituted.
