Day 1: Arrive Hong Kong, China

Arrive in Hong Kong, the “Pearl of the Orient,” where you are transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Hong Kong / East Meets West

After a visit to the Herbal Medicine Market, enter the incensefilled Man Mo Temple. Enjoy stunning panoramic views from the top of Victoria Peak. Later, ride a sampan through the floating villages of Aberdeen Harbor. Tonight, gather for a welcome dinner.

Day 3: Wuhan & Yichang / At the River’s Edge

Fly to Wuhan, ride a high-speed train to Yichang and then embark on your luxury river cruiser.

Days 4-6: Yangtze River Cruise / Legendary Passages

Visit the Exhibition Center for the Three Gorges Dam Project, a massive and controversial engineering marvel more than 7,660 feet long, for a tour of the area. Tonight, join your captain for a welcome reception before dinner. The next day, cruise to Badong, riding a traditional longboat poled by Tujia boatmen through brilliant green waters and rock formations. Back on your ship, sail along the mountainous Wu and Qutang gorges. On the last day of your cruise, explore Fendgu village with its fascinating market and Daoist temple.

Days 7-8: Xian / National Treasures

Disembark in Chongqing for a tour of the city and zoo, where you view China’s famous giant pandas. Fly to Xian, once a vital terminus of the Great Silk Road, and transfer to your hotel. The next day, tour one of the most fascinating archaeological sites of the 20th century, where the life-size Terra Cotta Warriors, created to protect the first emperor of China in his afterlife, were only just discovered in 1974. Enjoy a noodle-making demonstration during lunch. Later, explore the markets of the Old City quarter and the exquisite Great Mosque, followed by an evening show inspired by Tang Dynasty music and dance.

The Westin, Xian   |   Meals: B L (Day 7); B L D (Day 8)

Days 9-12: Beijing / China's Beating Heart

Fly to Beijing, and transfer to your hotel. The next day, discover one of history's most compelling capital cities. Walk Tiananmen Square, emblematic of the massive, centralized power of the Chinese government and utterly buzzing with modern life. Continue to the Forbidden City, a showcase of ancient palatial architecture. Tonight, savor traditional Peking duck at a local restaurant. The next day, travel to Mutianyu to visit one of the best-preserved sections of the Great Wall of China. Take in jaw-dropping views across the snaking, dragon-shaped wall and over the surrounding countryside. Return to Beijing, hopping into a pedicab to explore a traditional hutong (winding alleyway), once the lifeblood of old Beijing. Pay a memorable visit to a local family's home, where you learn about daily life and how it has changed; you also participate in a dumpling-making lesson. Tonight, gather for cocktails and a farewell dinner. On your final day, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
