Day 1: Arrive Rome, Italy

Arrive in Rome, the lively capital of Italy, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Referred to even in ancient times as the Eternal City, Rome has witnessed the rise and fall of the greatest empire in the history of Western civilization and today remains a center for trends in fashion and cuisine, as well as one of the world’s most popular travel destinations.

Day 2: Rome | Icons of the Eternal City

Begin your day at Palatine Hill, then pass the imposing Arch of Constantine to visit the mighty Colosseum. This afternoon, stop at the lovely Campo de Fiori, one of Rome’s thriving markets. Visit the Piazza Navona, dominated by the Baroque Fountain of the Four Rivers, and continue to the Pantheon. Later, enjoy a moment at the Trevi Fountain to perhaps toss in a coin, and finish your day at the foot of the picturesque Spanish Steps.

Day 3: Rome/Vatican City | The Sistine Chapel

Today, tour Vatican City, admiring the stunning collections in its vast museum. Behold the Sistine Chapel with its glorious ceiling painted by Michelangelo, and wonder at St. Peter’s Basilica. View the poignant Pietà of Michelangelo and the exuberant Baldaquin of Bernini.

Day 4: Orvieto/Florence | Wine Tasting in Tuscany

Drive to Florence, stopping for a guided walking tour of the hillside city of Orvieto, home to the cathedral housing Luca Signorelli’s Cycle of the Apocalypse. Continue through breathtaking Tuscan countryside where you visit a local wine producer and savor a wine tasting before continuing to Florence.

Day 5: Florence | Great Works of Art and Artifice

Enjoy a guided tour of the Uffizi Gallery to admire Caravaggio’s Medusa, Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation and Raphael’s Madonna of the Goldfinch. Then, make a very special private entry to the Vasari Corridor, built by Giorgio Vasari, court architect to the Medici family. Walk this private “Princes’ Route” — an elevated, enclosed passageway designed to provide privacy to a monarch — to the Pitti Palace and stroll the Boboli Gardens.

Day 6: Pisa | Duomo and Leaning Tower

Drive to Pisa, famous for its iconic Leaning Tower. Visit the magnificent 11th-century Piazza del Duomo (cathedral) and its austerely beautiful, 179-foot-tall Baptistery of St. John. A masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, the Duomo boasts a detailed marble facade that features narrow columns and Moorish-style arches. Enjoy time at leisure before returning to Florence this afternoon.

Day 7: Florence/Venice | Galleria dell’Accademia

Stroll the city, admiring its lovely piazzas, churches and palaces. See the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), as well as the Galleria dell’Accademia, where you behold Michelangelo’s David. Walk through the San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella districts and note the enduring influences of their Renaissance heritage. After time at leisure, journey by high-speed rail this afternoon to Venice, where you embark on a cruise of the Grand Canal to reach your hotel.

Day 8: Venice | Murano Glass-Blowing Demonstration

Visit Murano Island for a fascinating glass-blowing demonstration. Actually a close-knit group of islands linked by bridges, Murano has been home to the fine art of glassmaking since the late 13th century. Enjoy watching as today’s artisans uphold the island’s legacy with their dazzling, hand-blown creations. Later, on a walking tour of Venice, visit the lavish Doge’s Palace and explore St. Mark’s Square, before an afternoon and evening at leisure.

Day 9: Venice | Local Flavors

Immerse yourself in local life with a visit to the market district around the Rialto Bridge. Then, sample Venetian cuisine at a bacaro, a small wine bar that serves un’ombra (a small glass of wine) with cicchetti, traditional snacks such as spicy meatballs, fish appetizers and fried vegetables. Continue to the nearby Frari church, where you admire the Madonna and Child by Giovanni Bellini and an altarpiece, Assumption of the Virgin, by Titian. Conclude your sojourn in Italy with a romantic gondola ride through the canals of timeless Venice.

Day 10: Depart Venice

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and depart.
