Day 3: Ushuaia | Reserva Natural Cerro Alarkén

This morning, fly south to Ushuaia — set in mythical Tierra del Fuego, at the remote tip of South America. Your hotel, Arakur Ushuaia, is the starting point for the trails that run through Reserva Natural Cerro Alarkén, an area covering more than 247 acres devoted to the preservation of native forests of lengas, ñires and coihues, and of various species of flora and fauna typical of the region. This afternoon, your local guide leads you along one of the area’s fascinating hiking trails. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the hotel, with a view of the city and Beagle Channel.

Day 4: Ushuaia | Gable Island and Penguins

Drive to Estancia Harberton, the oldest estancia (farm) in Tierra del Fuego and an Argentine National Historical Monument. Next, sail to Gable Island, stopping en route to walk among the penguins nestled in their rookery on Isla Martillo. Enjoy a rustic lunch before sailing back to Harberton. Day 5: El Calafate | Authentic Ranch Visit

This morning, fly to El Calafate to experience Patagonian rural life. This afternoon, tour an authentic ranch and experience over 100 years of history along its sheep corrals, its main buildings and its landscapes. Watch sheep shearing and herding, witness demonstrations of typical riding skills on criollo horses, hike or horseback ride along the banks of Argentino Lake. Dinner tonight is lamb grilled on a traditional Patagonian cross stake.

Day 6: El Calafate | An Astonishing, Icy Spectacle

Today, visit the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few remaining advancing glaciers in the world. Hike at your own pace and ability along the seven “balconies” (walkways) located at different heights and distances from the glacier, each with magnificent views of the glacier’s northern and southern faces. After lunch within the park, take a one-hour safari excursion cruise across Lake Rico, passing beside icebergs that have calved off the front of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Arriving at the Icebergs Channel, the boat stops for spectacular views, allowing you to witness the almost constantly calving walls of ice.

Day 7: Puerto Natales | Torres del Paine National Park

Journey to Puerto Natales, where you check in and have a late lunch at your luxury hotel, before enjoying the remainder of your afternoon at leisure. It’s the beginning of three full days of exploration in spectacular Patagonia, led by your expert local guides. Today, choose from a wide range of exclusive expeditions and activities in Torres del Paine National Park, such as horseback riding, trekking, kayaking, mountain biking and birding — all designed to reveal Patagonia at its most authentic. Mingle with the local residents to learn their customs, visiting ranches and businesses where the region’s pioneers worked, sailing fjords and admiring landscapes far off the beaten path. This park was created by tectonic movements — the last ice age formed its rugged landscape and the movements of glaciers have continued to reshape it. The largest glaciers have all broken off from the southern Patagonian ice field, one of the world’s largest freshwater reserves. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the park is renowned for its otherworldly landscape of granite spires, ice and deserted pampas. See firsthand how the jagged granite ridges and spires of the Torres del Paine mountains are magnificently serrated.

Enjoy the opportunity to sail through the Patagonian Fjords, reaching Last Hope Fjord and visiting Glaciers Balmaceda and Serrano. Begin your journey with an hour-long cruise to observe colonies of blue-eyed cormorants and sea lions. Disembark in Puerto Toro (Bernardo O´Higgins National Park), and hike to the mirador (viewpoint) overlooking Glacier Serrano, which borders a lagoon with icebergs that come from the base of the glacier. Next, sail to the end of Seno de Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope Sound), and the outlet of Lago Azul.
