Day 1: Arrive Beijing, China

Arrive in Beijing, modern China’s dynamic capital city, where you are met and transferred to your luxurious hotel.

Day 2: Beijing | The Seat of Power and the Seeds of Change

This morning, visit Tiananmen Square, the vast plaza and powerful seat of government where a lone protestor once faced down a line of tanks. Then, walk in the footsteps of ancient rulers to visit the Forbidden City, China’s former imperial palace and now a vast museum housing the treasures of 24 emperors. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, before proceeding to the Soholike Factory 798 Art District, home to China’s artistic avant garde. Return to your hotel to enjoy a cocktail and welcome dinner.

Day 3: Beijing | From Atop the Great Wall

Today, walk or ride a cable car to the top of the well-preserved Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China, and enjoy the vistas of the surrounding countryside. After experiencing this largest of the New Seven Wonders of the World, return to your hotel, stopping en route to take photos of key sites from the 2008 Summer Olympics, such as the “The Bird’s Nest” and the “Water Cube.” Enjoy a relaxing Chinese foot massage before an evening at leisure.

Day 4: Xian | Tang Dynasty Treasures

Fly to ancient Xian, where you begin your visit with lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, stop at the Xian Jingwen Cattle Culture Museum, where you will have an opportunity to see the curator’s private collection of precious relics. Then, check into your hotel and relax before dinner. Finish your day with a night tour of Xian’s up-and-coming Qujiang section.

Day 5: Xian | Close Up with the Terra Cotta Warriors

Today, accompanied by an on-site archaeologist, visit the excavation site of the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, the lifesize army created to protect China’s first emperor in his afterlife. More than 8,000 soldiers stand at attention, each bearing a unique face, testifying to the remarkable craftsmanship that went into their creation. Next, enjoy a Chef’s Table experience that includes a private noodle-making demonstration in the museum’s restaurant. Spend this evening at your leisure.

Day 6: Shanghai | Walking the Famous Bund

Today, fly to Shanghai, a contrast of old and new. Transfer to a local restaurant for lunch before joining a local historian for a guided walking tour of the Bund — a famous waterfront area in central Shanghai. Next, ascend to the glass Skywalk atop the World Financial Center to take in stunning vistas of Shanghai, before settling into your hotel.

Day 7: Shanghai | Witness Incredible Acrobatics

Start your day with an early-morning tai chi lesson from a tai chi master on the Bund. Then, get a sense of Shanghai’s history on visits to the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall and the Shanghai Museum, with its world-renowned collection of bronzes and ceramics. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure. Tonight, attend a performance by the Shanghai Acrobatics Troupe, which thrills and amazes with dazzling feats of strength, balance and athleticism.

Day 8: Shanghai | Water Village and Yu Garden

Experience charming Zhujiajiao, a traditional water village, gliding through its main canal on a sampan. Then, visit the 16th-century Yu Garden with its picturesque pavilions and streams and stroll the streets of Old Town. Tonight, gather for a farewell dinner at a chic local restaurant.

Day 9: Depart Shanghai

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and depart.
