Begin with an extraordinary overview: drive to Table Mountain, which you ascend by cable car (weather permitting) for panoramic vistas of the city and sea. Descend into Cape Town for a walking tour through the Company Gardens. Stop at the Castle of Good Hope, visiting its notorious dungeon. South Africa produces some of the finest wines in the world, and this afternoon, you tour Constantia Valley, the oldest wine making region in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy lunch at Jonkershuis, situated within the 327-year-old Groot Constantia Wine Estate, and then visit Constantia Glen Wine Estate, known for its cool-climate, Bordeaux-style reds. Tonight, gather for a welcome dinner. The next day, drive to the dramatic Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Pass the Clifton and Camps Bay “bikini beaches,” set at the foot of the Twelve Apostles Mountains. At the Cape of Good Hope, opt to ride the Flying Dutchman funicular up to the lighthouse for spectacular views below. At Boulders Beach, observe its charming colony of African penguins. Continue to the fishing hamlet of Kalk Bay and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where you walk amid indigenous fauna.

Continue to your luxury game lodge set on the reserve and to your suite, from where you can sip a relaxing sundowner on your own private patio. Your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities on offer. Spend the next two days in the unhurried, wild African bush. Kapama is home to all of Africa’s “Big Five,” including the elusive leopard, several prides of lion, large populations of elephant and rhino, and the rare and endangered African wild dog. Pay a visit to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, where cheetahs, caracals and other species are rehabilitated and can be safely viewed at close range.

The next day, experience one of the greatest natural wonders in the world on a guided walking tour of Victoria Falls. Called “the smoke that thunders” by the Kololo tribe, the spectacular falls drop a massive 1.2-mile-wide curtain of water over the edge of the cliff, sending up plumes of mist, rainbows and a thrilling roar.
