Chianti & Tuscany
Days: 4 | From: $3,295
Day 1: Florence/Chianti
You are met on arrival in Florence and taken to your hotel in Chianti.
Day 2: Chianti Food & Wine
Venture out into the beautiful Chianti countryside with your driver-guide, stopping in some of the lovely hilltop towns, such as Greve and Castellina. Enjoy wine tastings at local vineyards and explore villages known for their traditional foods: schiacciata con olio (focaccia-like bread with oil) and finocchiona (soft salami with fennel seeds). Drive through the forests where, in October, the famous porcini mushrooms are found. The area is also known for its preserves, and any time of the year you can find mushrooms, artichokes and other vegetables sott’olio (preserved in oil). Visit Panzano in Chianti, home to the “Singing Butcher” of Chianti and well-known for incredible cuts of meat, such as the traditional bistecca fiorentina (Florentine T-bone steak). Travel to Badia di Passignano, a medieval hamlet and abbey founded in 395 by the Archbishop of Florence. Monks of the Vallombrosan Order still live in the abbey and are the keepers of its cultural and historical treasures. You also have a chance to taste the different varieties of Antinori wines.
Day 3: Medieval Tuscany
With its typical skyline of medieval towers and palaces, San Gimignano is incredibly well preserved and is listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Pass endless vineyards and olive groves when you head off the main roads. Your reward is incredible views that most travellers miss.
Day 4: Chianti/Florence
Transfer privately to the airport in Florence for your departure flight.
