Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Amman, Jordan

Arrive in Amman, the capital with ties to the Early Bronze Age, where you are escorted to your luxurious hotel.

Four Seasons Hotel Amman
Day 2: Amman/Jerash/Amman

This morning, begin the day’s discoveries among ruins and artifacts dating back to the Byzantine and early Islamic times at the ancient Citadel towers atop Jabal el-Qala’a. Additionally, visit Queen Rania’s grassroots project, which supports local public schools. Continue on to Jerash, known as the “Pompeii of the Middle East” for its extraordinarily well-preserved Roman ruins. Keep your eyes peeled — the grooves of chariot wheels are still visible in the cobbled streets.

A&K PHILANTHROPY PROJECT: Visit the Balquees School, where A&K renovations have improved the quality of life for students.

Day 3: Amman/Madaba/Petra

From Amman, follow mountain-fringed King’s Highway through the beautiful Gorge of Amman (Wadi Mujib). Explore the city of Madaba, known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. See the famous sixth-century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land; comprised of two million pieces of colored stone, it depicts villages as far away as the Nile Delta. From here, continue to Mount Nebo, where the Bible says Moses glimpsed the Promised Land — which he would never enter — and spent his final days. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Um Ar-Rassas, famous for its stunning collection of mosaics before driving to the Nabatean city of Petra.

Day 4: Petra

UNESCO describes Petra as “one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage.” Spend a full day exploring the “rose-red” city, sculpted from a mountain range by the Nabataeans in the third century BC. Major sites include the Treasury, the Temple of Winged Lions, baths, markets, storerooms and tombs.

Day 5: Petra/Wadi Rum/Dead Sea

This morning, explore Wadi Rum, where T. E. Lawrence lived with his Bedouin allies during World War I. Bedouin camps are evident in the Wadi, and some welcome visitors with open arms. Continue your drive to the Dead Sea and your resort hotel, a luxurious retreat surrounded by beautiful gardens, lagoons, olive trees and bamboo palms. The balance of the day is at your leisure to settle in, enjoy the resort’s facilities or explore the wonders of the Dead Sea.

Day 6: Dead Sea

Spend a relaxing day sampling the Dead Sea’s renowned restorative powers. With the highest content of minerals and salts in the world, the Dead Sea water possesses anti-inflammatory properties, and the dark mud found on its shores has been used therapeutically for more than 2,000 years. Explore at your own pace, or relax at your resort hotel. Go for a dip in one of your hotel’s nine fresh-water pools, or spend some time in a private pergola situated steps from the water’s edge.
