Day 1: ARRIVE IN BUDAPEST

Arrive in Budapest and meet your A&K representative. This evening, gather with fellow guests at a welcome dinner.

Day 2: BUDAPEST / Old World Splendors

Explore Budapest, starting with a private tour of the palatial State Opera House. Visit the ornate Dohány Street Synagogue, the vast Heroes’ Square and St. Stephen’s Basilica, the city’s largest church. After lunch, ascend Castle Hill, where the former Royal Palace gracefully towers over the Danube. Visit the Matthias Church, where many Hungarian kings have been crowned, and enjoy the stunning views of the city and river.

Day 3: BUDAPEST / The Danube by Twilight

Spend the morning strolling among the merchants and local shoppers in the Central Market Hall, at the Pest end of Liberty Bridge. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore on your own. This evening, enjoy a relaxing private cruise along the Danube.

Day 4: VIENNA / Pannonhalma

Depart Budapest for Vienna. Stop along the way at Pannonhalma, where your local guide leads you on a tour of the 1,000-year-old Benedictine abbey. Afterward, enjoy lunch in the abbey’s restaurant while sampling a range of their wines. Arrive in Vienna this afternoon.

Day 5: VIENNA / Home of the Habsburgs

Discover the fabulous imperial city of Vienna during a walking tour. Walk along the famous Ringstrasse with its 19th-century buildings, and visit the Hofburg Palace, former home of the Habsburgs. Also visit the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, whose soaring structure enshrines the heart of Vienna. This afternoon takes you to Schönbrunn Palace for an apple strudel baking lesson and tasting with a professional pastry chef.

Day 6: VIENNA / A Musical History

After a morning at leisure, join Edward Kudlak, retired Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra violist, for a talk on Vienna’s incomparable musical heritage. The performance is but a prelude to this evening, when you take part in a private Viennese waltz lesson in one of the city’s most prestigious dance schools.

Day 7: PRAGUE / Medieval Telc

This morning, depart Vienna for Prague. Stop en route at the medieval Czech town of Telc, famous for its fine Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, where you may visit the abbey at your leisure. Continue to Prague for an afternoon at leisure, or join your Tour Director for a brief orientation walking tour.

Day 8: PRAGUE / The Old Town

Enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town with its cobbled streets and Jewish Quarter, birthplace of Franz Kafka. See the Gothic Town Hall in Old Town Square, famous for its astronomical clock. Visit the Jewish Museum, which houses the largest collection of Judaica in Europe, along with the Jewish Cemetery. In the afternoon, enjoy an excursion to Prague’s Castle District and visit the Cathedral of St. Vitus. Complete your sightseeing with a visit to the Strahov Monastery, with its glorious Baroque decorations, where you enjoy a private tour of the ornate library.

Day 9: PRAGUE / Czech Favorites

Today, take an in-depth look at two of the Czech Republic’s best-known products: Bohemian crystal and Pilsner Urquell beer. You are also welcome to relax and explore on your own. Gather tonight for your farewell dinner.
