Itinerary

Day 1: SUNDAY

Meet in Paris for transfer to ‘La Belle Époque,’ moored at Venarey-les-Laumes. After a champagne welcome, enjoy dinner on board.

Day 2: MONDAY

Enjoy a relaxing cruise into the Burgundian countryside this morning. After lunch, visit 12th-century Fontenay Abbey with its peaceful gardens and beautiful cloisters.

Day 3: TUESDAY

Cruise to Ravieres, passing the 18th-century Forges de Buffon where the great naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon harnessed the waters of the River Armaçon to power the local water mills. Explore the hilltop village of Flavigny (where the film Chocolat was made). Continue to ancient Alesia, site of the last battle between the Gauls and the Romans in 52 BC.

Day 4: WEDNESDAY

Explore the colorful market at medieval Noyers this morning. The village, nestled in a loop of the River Serein, has many picturesque halftimbered houses and ancient cobbled streets. After lunch at a local auberge, return to ‘La Belle Époque’ for a lazy afternoon cruise past grazing white Charolais cattle.

Day 5: THURSDAY

There are good opportunities for walking or cycling along the towpath this morning as ‘La Belle Époque’ cruises past the gardens of 16th-century Château d’Ancy le Franc. After lunch, visit Château de Tanlay, home to the Marquis de Tanlay since the late 17th century. Built in Renaissance style, the château is known for its gallery that is painted in intricate trompe l’oeil style. Rejoin the barge for dinner on board.

Day 6: FRIDAY

Visit the vineyards and town of Chablis today for a private tasting at Domaine Servan, known for its Premier and Grand Cru wines. Then cruise to Tanlay for a gala farewell dinner to celebrate the week.

Disembark after breakfast for your transfer back to Paris, where your journey ends.
