A&K and Antarctic Expeditions

Abercrombie & Kent continues to set the standard for travel to the White Continent. Discerning travellers trust our longstanding presence in Antarctica and proven record of successful expeditions, as well as our signature blend of luxury and adventure. Find out for yourself how our expertise sets us apart.

A Perfect 25-Year Safety Record

Since A&K began exploring the White Continent 25 years ago, our crew and staff have been hired based on their experience in Antarctic waters. As a 25-year full member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators, A&K proudly boasts an immaculate safety record. In fact, A&K has successfully operated more than 150 Antarctica expeditions.

Expert Support from Beginning to End

Every A&K Antarctica expedition is backed by experts who know this remote, rugged destination from the inside out. Your extraordinary journey begins before you even set foot on board ‘Le Boreal' — our home office staff boasts years of expertise in pre-planning and fine-tuning every aspect of your journey. Our ground office in Buenos Aires, Argentina, provides around-the-clock support and ensures that strict A&K standards are always in place. In fact, A&K is the first international tour operator to establish fully owned local operating offices in South America, now in four different countries. And A&K Antarctica vacations are all-inclusive, meaning pre- and post-departure lodging and sightseeing, on-board lectures, shore excursions, equipment, most drinks, and crew and staff gratuity are included.

Safety First, At All Times

‘Le Boreal' is equipped with the latest communication, navigation and safety equipment, including a GMDSS emergency communication system and a satellite weather system, receiving real-time satellite images of cruising conditions in the area. The staff, lecturers and crew alert passengers on safe conduct and current conditions both on board and ashore. English is the primary language aboard, so, in the unlikely event of an emergency, instructions will be clear.

Eco-Friendly Antarctic Voyages

A&K Antarctica expeditions operate under two equally important guidelines: to insure the comfort and safety of our passengers and, at all times, to protect the integrity of the fragile Antarctic environment. A&K's Antarctica operations exceed all environmental protocols of operation as set by IAATO, the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Antarctic Treaty Party nations. In addition, ‘Le Boreal' employs the latest environmental practices and technology, including:

  • a computerized dynamic positioning system that eliminates the need to drop anchor in fragile marine reserves;
  • thermal and phonic insulation in engines and propulsion systems to reduce energy consumption;
  • the cleanest-burning marine gas oil fuel; and
  • Zodiacs that feature fuel-efficient motors.

A Blend of Luxury and Adventure

A voyage to the ends of the earth with A&K does not mean you forsake comfort. On the contrary — you experience A&K's legendary blend of luxury, adventure and authenticity at every step of your Antarctic expedition. On A&K departures, we exclusively operate ‘Le Boreal,' the first all-balcony stateroom and suite vessel in Antarctica. Spacious and passenger-friendly, it strikes the right balance between on-board amenities and full-fledged wilderness excitement.
