From Punta Arenas, one of the Southern-most cities in the world, fly to Patriot Hills camp to acclimatize at 2,800 feet above sea level. Next fly over the continent of ice to reach the Emperor penguin grounds. After finding a suitable place to land on the ice, set up camp within 50 feet of the nesting area. In addition to penguin and as many as 3,300 penguin chicks, watch for Weddell seals on the ice and snow-white Antarctic terns sailing above.
