Day 1: Arrive Cairo

Fly to Cairo where you are met by an A&K representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Giza | The Pyramids & Sphinx

Embark on a tour of the Giza Plateau. View the ancient Pyramids of Mycerinus, Chefren and the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the largest of the three and the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore the interior of one of these legendary monuments before visiting the Solar Boat Museum, site of Cheops’s funerary boat, and the Great Sphinx.

Day 3: Cairo | Legendary Pharaohs

Visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities which houses over 12,000 ancient relics and a famous Mummy Room, where you find the remains of Ramses II. Drive to Memphis, capital of the ancient kingdom, and see the 18th-Dynasty Alabaster Sphinx and the statue of Ramses II. Continue to Sakkara, home to hundreds of tombs and 14 pyramids, including the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser.

Day 4: Luxor | Karnak and the Valley of the Kings

Fly to Luxor, where you explore the expertly crafted Temple of Karnak before boarding Sanctuary ‘Sun Boat IV.’ Explore the west bank of the Nile, the Necropolis of Thebes and the legendary Valley of the Kings burial ground, where you step inside the tomb of Tutankhamun. Also explore the lovely Temple of Hatshepsut, ancient Egypt’s first female pharaoh, and time permitting, visit the Valley of the Queens (Biban el-Harim).

Day 5: Cruising the Nile | Temple of Hathor at Denderah

Cruise north on a scenic route far from the crowds to explore the rarely-seem Temple of Hathor at Denderah, which is among the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Sail back to Luxor and visit the city of Thebes and the striking Temple of Luxor, with its large statues of Ramses II and the Court of Amenhotep III.

Please note for November 17, 2014 – February 2015 Departures:
Due to unexpected low water levels of the Nile River, the Sanctuary Sun Boats will not be able to sail north of the city of Luxor. To ensure the safety of all guests on board, we will be driving to Denderah for the scheduled sightseeing. The drive time between Luxor and Denderah is approximately 1 hour.

Day 6: Cruising the Nile | Edfu to Kom Ombo

Continue cruising to Edfu and to the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god. Join your chef on board for a local cooking lesson. Later, disembark at Kom Ombo (hill of gold) to visit the Greco-Roman temple dedicated to Haroeris (the sun god) and Sobek (the crocodile god).

Day 7: Aswan | Majestic Philae

Sail to Aswan and ride a motorized boat to Philae Temple on the island of Agilika. Continue to the site of the monolith Unfinished Obelisk. End the day sailing around the Aswan islands in a felucca (small sailboat), weather permitting.

Day 8: Abu Simbel | Temples of Ramses II & Nefertari

Disembark and fly to Abu Simbel, where you discover the towering twin temples of Ramses II, Egypt's longest-ruling pharaoh, and his wife, Queen Nefertari. Return to Cairo for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 9: Cairo | Bustling Souk

Walk from Bab el-Fotouh to Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, one of the city's largest and most vibrant souks (open-air marketplace), all on a street that has hardly changed for centuries. Explore the Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan, one of the largest in the world.
