Day 3

Embark on a long hike to one of Bhutan’s most revered icons, Taktsang (also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery), perched 3,000 feet above the valley floor. Far from being a monument, it is a living, breathing monastery, home to a handful of monks. Hang a prayer flag to send Buddhist blessings via the winds. Afterward, enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking Taktsang and, time permitting, visit Ta Dzong, a circular fortress that once protected the Paro Valley from Tibetan invaders. Currently, this old watchtower is being used as the National Museum and is filled with a beautiful collection of antiquities. Cross Nyamai Zampa, a traditional cantilever bridge, and drive down to the temple to view ancient wall paintings.
