2013 Marco Polo Club Invitational Journeys
Abercrombie & Kent is the world leader in luxury and adventure travel, widely known and highly respected for its attention to detail, high standards of service and the authenticity of inspiring experiences that are part of each carefully-crafted itinerary. New destinations for 2013 include Colombia and Sri Lanka.Colombia’s Colonial Charm – On this first-ever A&K journey to Colombia, explore Spanish colonial walled cities in the company of local experts. Experience the aromas, textures and flavors of this fascinating area of coffee and pineapple plantations and sugar mills. Visit a horse-breeding farm and meet local furniture makers on their bamboo farm.
Sri Lankan Serendipity - Few islands in the world offer the diversity found here, from ancient cities to rolling tea plantations to the best beaches in the Indian Ocean, as well as an astonishing variety of bird and animal wildlife. Explore the island formerly known both as Serendip and Ceylon, offering a potpourri of culture, custom and sheer natural beauty.
Travellers who have circled the globe in search of the next ‘must see’ destination will find themselves drawn to Latin America, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes found on Patagonian Paradise and natural and man-made wonders of the Galápagos and Easter Island on South American Panorama.
Rediscover familiar destinations by venturing off the beaten path or immersing yourself in the local culture. Explore Amsterdam’s famous Rijksmuseum as it reopens after years of renovations on The Flemish Masters. Delve into the “true Italy” while exploring the crossroads of history between Europe and Africa, on Sicilian Sojourn, or as a spectator at the world-famous horse race in Siena on Tuscany, Umbria & The Palio. Explore the remote region of Diqing, which provides a glimpse of Tibetan culture on China: Tracing the Yangtze.
Whether riding the rails or cruising the less-travelled waterways, the mode of transportation can be as much of an adventure as the destination itself. Be one of the first to cruise on an extended journey up the Nile River, cruising to sites that have been barred to travellers for more than 15 years, on Splendors of Egypt. Experience the untamed natural beauty of the rarely-visited Upper Mekong as you float serenely through tropical bamboo forests From Thailand to Laos on the Mekong. See daily life unfold from your private compartment on your train as you travel from Beijing to Moscow via Mongolia on Riding the Rails Through Siberia. Travel back in time through the rich history of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on Along the Silk Road by Private Train. Discover the wonders of Botswana, Zambia and South Africa from different vantage points: a houseboat, a 4x4 vehicle, on foot, from above in a helicopter and on a luxury vintage train on Southern Africa by River and Rail. Observe a wide array of Tanzanian wildlife while staying at some of the country’s most spectacular camps and lodges on Tanzania: Ultimate Luxury Safari.
In addition to new experiences, travellers will have a second chance to experience two encore programs: Brazil: Rainforests to Rio and English Gardens & The Chelsea Flower Show, which offers privileged access to the Royal Horticultural Society’s members-only festivities – and sold out in 2012.
